Lean and Six Sigma are complementary approaches to process improvement. Lean focuses on customer value, flow, and waste, while Six Sigma uses data to understand and reduce variation. DMAIC provides a structured way to define problems, measure performance, analyse causes, improve processes, and establish controls for ongoing performance.

NZOQ works with Thornley Group to offer Yellow Belt, Green Belt, and Black Belt upgrade training. Course duration, prerequisites, personal study, and assessment requirements vary by belt level.

Lean and Six Sigma training at three levels

Courses combine practitioner-led training, practical exercises, and supplementary online study. The content progresses from foundational participation in improvement work to leading and managing more complex projects.

Training is available in classroom and online formats. Course duration and study requirements vary by belt.

Yellow Belt training

Yellow Belt introduces the principles and tools used in structured process improvement. It is suited to process owners, project team members, and others who support or participate in improvement work.

Green Belt training

Green Belt develops deeper capability in DMAIC, process analysis, data use, and project delivery. It is suited to people who lead improvement projects or have regular responsibility for improving processes.

Black Belt upgrade

Black Belt upgrade builds on Green Belt knowledge through advanced analysis, project leadership, data management, and change management. Green Belt certification is required before attendance.

Classroom, online, and in-house options are available.

Training rates shown on this website are indicative and confirmed at the time of registration or enrolment. They apply to domestic participants in 2026 and may change in future years. Additional costs for learning materials or equipment may apply.

NZOQ belt certification

Depending on the belt level, participants may be eligible to undertake an optional NZOQ assessment after completing the required training and personal study.

Assessment requirements vary by belt and may include an online open-book examination, a supplied case study, or a work-based project. Check the relevant course page for prerequisites, fees, assessment requirements, and the certification awarded.

Completing a Thornley Group course does not automatically confer NZOQ certification.
