This Excellence for Quality Managers workshop introduces the Criteria for Performance Excellence and shows how they can be used to review organisational performance as a connected system. Participants use practical tools to identify strengths, gaps, and priorities for improvement.

The workshop is intended for quality managers and others responsible for reviewing or improving organisational performance, including senior leaders, change leaders, management system practitioners, and advisers. The approach can be applied across sectors and organisation types.

Course programme

Assess organisational performance as a connected system

Learn how to use the Criteria for Performance Excellence to examine leadership; strategy; customers; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; workforce; operations; and results.

The workshop combines individual work with group exercises. Participants complete pre-course work using information from their organisation and receive practical assessment and planning tools introduced during the workshop.

Explain the structure and purpose of the Criteria for Performance Excellence
  • Organisational Profile: defines the organisation and its operating context
  • Process categories: leadership; strategy; customers; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; workforce; and operations
  • Results category: examines organisational results
  • Core values and concepts: principles found in high-performing organisations
  • Evaluation and scoring: considers the maturity of processes and the strength of results
Use the Criteria to review an organisation from a systems perspective
  • Identify strengths and opportunities for improvement
  • Examine alignment between processes, measures, and results
  • Prioritise areas for further investigation or action
Apply practical tools to support assessment and improvement
  • Assessor tool: supports structured self-assessment
  • Maturity grid: supports evaluation and scoring
  • BPIR: provides examples of good practice and benchmarking information
